Why we get vaccinated: use the summer break to get school-ready

Posted in:

As families start thinking ahead to the new school year, now is a good time to check that children are up to date with their vaccinations and ready for any school vaccination programmes taking place later in the year. Being vaccinated helps protect children against serious illnesses, supports school attendance and helps reduce the spread of infectious diseases across the wider community.

The reminder comes as Lambeth Together and councils across London continue to promote the Why We Get Vaccinated campaign. The campaign features real stories from residents, healthcare professionals and community leaders, helping to spark conversations and build understanding about the role vaccinations play in protecting individuals, families and communities.

Image of a dad and his sons from London telling us that checking their vaccinations are up to date reassures him they are protected.

What you can do

  • Check your family’s vaccination records and book any catch-up appointments over the summer.
  • Find out about the vaccinations your child may be offered at school in the coming academic year.
  • If you have questions about vaccination, visit the NHS website or speak to your GP, practice nurse or local pharmacist.
