Take action this Mental Health Awareness Week: five steps to wellbeing

Monday marks the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Week this year and the theme is ‘Action.’ While raising awareness remains essential, ‘taking action’ is vital to lasting change and better health all year round.

In honour of this year’s theme, Lambeth Together and Partnership Southwark have created a short video exploring the different ways residents can ‘take action’ on their mental health through the 5 Steps to Mental Wellbeing.

Ruth Hutt, Director of Public Health for Lambeth Council, said: “Mental Health Awareness Week is an important reminder that small actions can make a real difference to how we feel day to day. The NHS’ five steps to mental wellbeing are simple, practical ways for people to look after their mental health, whether that’s staying connected, being active or taking notice. I’d encourage everyone in Lambeth to take one positive step this week, for themselves and for those around them.”

Many of the highlighted wellbeing activities actually offer multiple, if not all, of the five steps to mental wellbeing in one. So the impact of adding just one regular activity or action to your week can be huge. Take action for your mental health today, for yourself, for someone else, for all of us.

With thanks

With huge thanks to groups in Southwark and Lambeth who took part in the film. Please see their website links for further information:
