Lambeth Can Move Network launches and invites residents to shape a more active borough
Lambeth residents are being encouraged to share their experiences of physical activity as part of a new borough-wide programme aiming to tackle inequalities and help more people lead active, healthy lives. They’re particularly interested in hearing from people with current low levels of activity.
The call comes following the recent launch of the Lambeth Can Move Network, which brought together nearly 100 people from across Lambeth at Brockwell Hall to explore the barriers that prevent people from being physically active and identify practical solutions to overcome them. The event marked the start of a growing partnership working to address systemic inequalities in physical activity across the borough.

Ruth Hutt, Director of Public Health for Lambeth Council, said: ” The UK Chief Medical Officers describes physical activity as a “miracle cure” because of the breadth of conditions it prevents and treats. Lambeth Can Move is about working together with residents, communities and organisations across the borough. We want to understand what gets in the way of physical activity, and to create lasting change that makes it easier for people to move more in ways that work for them.”
Lambeth Can Move is led by London Sport and supported by Lambeth Council, the NHS and community organisations. The programme aims to bring together residents, voluntary sector organisations and public services to create opportunities for more people to be active in ways that work for them. At the launch event, attendees explored research carried out by local voluntary and community sector organisations into the barriers and enablers to physical activity. Workshops facilitated by High Trees Development Trust and Brixton Project helped participants discuss practical solutions and priorities for future work.
Lambeth is one of 92 places nationally, and one of five London boroughs, selected to receive investment through the Lambeth Can Move programme.
