Lambeth Council is hosting its second free Ageing Well festival at the Kia Oval on 5 October 2024, from 11am to 3pm to celebrate the commitment to becoming an age friendly borough. It will be a fun and social day with information and advice stalls, activities, food and entertainment tailored to residents aged 50 and older.

Lambeth and Southwark have a thriving LGBTQ+ community. But many people who identify as LGBTQIA+ report feeling isolated, misunderstood, and unsupported, leading to increased levels of stress, anxiety, and depression.
A local mental health charity has recognised this urgent need and has taken urgent action by successfully securing funding for a new wellbeing group: Queer Minds.

On Thursday, 12 September 105 people attended an event at Brixton Library organised by GP practices from the Hills, Brook and Dales Primary Care Network to raise awareness about the importance of cancer screening.
Signposting people to local cancer services
At the third of their cancer screening awareness raising event, Hills, Brooks and Dales PCN outreach team supported people who attended to speak to organisations including ovarian cancer charity Ovacome , Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing, Macmillan, Carers’ Hub Lambeth, Cancer Don’t Let It Win, Prostate Cancer UK and Carers4carers on topics like breast, bowel, prostate and cervical cancer screening, as well as smoking cessation and lung health.

More than 400 local people joined a special health and wellbeing day on Saturday for the borough’s Black communities. It combined culture, entertainment, stalls, health screening, sports and expert support to highlight and improve health issues.
It was organised by Lambeth Together – a partnership between Lambeth Council, the NHS and the voluntary sector – alongside the inspire programme which was set up after the Covid-19 pandemic to tackle the big health inequalities faced by Black people in London.
