Targeted Lung Health Checks are back in Lambeth

From Friday 22 August, anyone aged 55 to 74 living in Lambeth who has ever smoked is eligible for a free NHS Lung Health Check.

Targeted Lung Health Checks are designed to assess your risk of developing lung cancer, and refer you to specialists if necessary.

The checks happen in two stages:

  • first, you will be offered an appointment over the phone with a specially trained nurse. This will assess your risk of developing lung cancer or other lung diseases.
  • if you are found to be at high risk, you will be invited to have a lung scan – known as a low dose CT scan – to capture an image of your lungs and identify if there are any issues which need further investigation or treatment.

If you currently smoke and would like to quit, attending your targeted lung health check will allow you to enter Lambeth’s specialist stop smoking service for support.

Lung cancer often has no symptoms in the earlier stages which can result in it not being found until the later stages, when it is harder to treat.

Residents who are eligible for a check are advised to look out for the letter from their GP and to make their appointment without delay.
