Ask Your Pharmacist Week – discover how your local pharmacist can help
For Pharmacy First Week, we spoke with Linda, a local pharmacist, to explore the wide range of services available for Lambeth residents. From expert advice to convenient treatments, Linda shares how your community pharmacy can support your health and wellbeing.

“I’m a pharmacist, and every day I help people with a wide range of health concerns. With more than 300 community pharmacies across south east London – many open late and at weekends – we really are your NHS on the high street.
“Most people live within a short walk of a pharmacy, and you don’t need an appointment to speak to us. Many of our pharmacies have private consultation rooms, so you can discuss your health worries in confidence. We can also signpost you to other local services if needed.
“We can provide quick, effective advice and treatment for common conditions like sore throats, earaches, and skin problems such as shingles or impetigo. In many cases, we can prescribe medication on the spot. If you need other support, we’ll point you in the right direction.
“Pharmacies also offer free services that can make a big difference to your long-term health. If you’re over 40, why not pop in for a free blood pressure check? It’s a simple step that could help prevent serious problems like heart attacks. Many pharmacies also provide free oral contraception without needing to see a GP.
“This autumn, some pharmacies are giving free flu and COVID-19 vaccinations to those most at risk. You can book online, through the NHS App, by calling 119, or visit a walk-in clinic.
“Our teams reflect the communities we serve – many speak multiple languages to make sure everyone feels supported.
So during ‘Ask Your Pharmacist Week’, remember: your local pharmacy is here to help you stay well. Don’t wait for minor health issues to get worse – think pharmacy first.”

Jose, a resident visiting his local pharmacy, with his friend Joquim, said: “We’ve both come for a flu vaccination today. Every two months I pick up my medication here. I’ve also had my blood pressure take here. It’s so easy, as it’s close to where I live.”
