Over the past eight months, a series of inspiring cancer awareness events have been making a real impact in tackling health inequalities across Lambeth. The events were organised by social prescribing link workers from Lambeth’s Primary Care Networks, and with thanks to funding from Lambeth Together’s Neighbourhood and Wellbeing Delivery Alliance and the South East London Cancer Alliance.

Last week, Lambeth’s Hills, Brook and Dale Primary Care Network and the Eve Appeal welcomed local residents to an open discussion and workshop on womb cancer at Goodwin Hall in West Norwood. This workshop is part of a series organised across south east London by South East London Cancer Alliance (SELCA), promoting screening for womb cancer, cervical cancer and prostate cancer.

In a powerful movement to combat alarming disparities in cancer outcomes, Black communities across South East London are joining forces to encourage the uptake of breast screening appointments for women aged 50 to 71, and for Black men aged 45 and over, who have a higher risk of prostate cancer, to talk to their GP about having a PSA blood test.

A new breast screening video has been launched to help save lives in Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. It features patients and staff from King’s College Hospital has been launched to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The video features a diverse array of patients from south-east London – some from groups with traditionally low take-up of screening invitations – talking about their experiences of having a mammogram.
