Lambeth DataNet

Lambeth DataNet is a resource that uses anonymised patient data from GP practices to enable us to assess needs, plan and provide better health care to everyone in the area.

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the July 2025 edition of the Lambeth DataNet bulletin which provides an update on the great research being undertaken to provide insights into the needs of our Lambeth residents, all thanks to DataNet.

The latest findings and planned projects using  DataNet

  • Mental health and multi-sector data research in Lambeth

A series of linked-data studies using Lambeth DataNet (LDN) and the Clinical Record Interactive Search (CRIS) system at South London and Maudsley are underway to improve understanding of mental health, treatment, and care pathways:

  • Cardiovascular risk in mental health (CARMOS-PND)
People with mental health disorders have higher rates of cardiovascular disease. This study intends to compare cardiovascular risk profiles, screening, management, and outcomes in people with and without mental health diagnoses. Findings will inform earlier detection, prevention, and targeted interventions.

  • Recovery and relapse of mental health conditions (DIRECT-PSC)
This project will develop indicators of recovery and relapse across both primary and specialist care, focusing on psychotic and mood disorders. Validated indicators will help predict re-referral or crisis events and support earlier intervention and discharge planning.

  • Pre-diagnostic indicators of mental disorders (RAPID-MD)
Examining primary care patterns prior to first specialist referral, this study will look at consultations, prescriptions, and other data to identify early indicators of psychotic, mood, personality disorders, and dementia. Results will highlight opportunities for early detection and timely intervention.

  • Cross-sector service use (SCOPE-PINC)
Focusing on dementia, brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, and some mental health conditions, this research will map service use across primary care, specialist mental health, acute care, and social care. It plans to quantify care frequency, fluctuations, and predictive patterns, supporting service planning and economic modelling.

  • Prescribing patterns in mental health
This study will investigate psychotropic and relevant non-psychotropic medication use before, during, and after mental healthcare episodes. It assesses treatment resistance, discontinuation events, and outcomes in psychotic disorders, mood disorders, and dementia to guide safer, more effective care.
