Sexual Health Programme Priorities

Our activity focuses on the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases and improving access to our sexual and reproductive health and abortion services, making sure they’re accessible and sustainable to all Lambeth residents.

Our refreshed strategy (LSLBB Sexual Health Strategy 2025-2030) focuses on four themes. These are:

· Health and fulfilling sexual relationships

· Improving reproductive health

· Reducing the rate of sexually transmitted infections

· Preventing and living well with HIV

Our action plan is summarised below.

Prevention – Reducing sexually transmitted infections

We are focused on lowering the rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) across Lambeth. A high rate of STI diagnoses may indicate good awareness and access to services, but our aim is to achieve both a reduction in new cases and maintain high levels of testing and treatment. We will continue to deliver targeted prevention initiatives and education, especially for communities most at risk, to promote safer sexual practices and ensure prompt access to care.

Access – Expanding contraception choices

We are committed to making contraception accessible through a mix of online and face-to face services. Our strategy includes raising awareness of available options and improving education around contraception, empowering residents to make informed choices about their reproductive health.

Equity – Supporting vulnerable groups and promoting inclusion

We strive to reduce health inequalities, by ensuring advice and support is available for all. Through communications and engagement, we provide opportunities for residents to learn about sexual and reproductive health and wellbeing as well as local services. In particular, we work to provide targeted information and support to those who experience more barriers to services or have higher needs, such as marginalised groups, young people and Black and Latin American communities.

Chemsex interventions are in place to support residents, primarily gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men, by connecting them with the appropriate services for their needs.

Specialist services such as cliniQ at Camberwell Clinic provide holistic support for trans and non-binary individuals, working in partnership with other health and support services.

Innovation – HIV Prevention, early diagnosis and living well with HIV

We are leading on innovative approaches to HIV prevention, including increasing access to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) through ongoing trials. Our work also focuses on expanding opportunities for HIV testing to ensure early diagnosis and timely treatment.
