Learning disabilities and autism in Lambeth

The Learning Disabilities and Autism Programme brings together Lambeth Together partners to make sure that people with learning disabilities and/or autism achieve equal life chances, live as independently as possible and have the right support from health and care services.

These are the main issues we’d like to work on as a partnership:

  • People with a learning disability often have poorer physical and mental health than other people and are less likely to be in employment than the overall population. They’re also still too often cared for in hospital rather than in the community.
  • People with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are often diagnosed later in life and there is a much higher rate of suicide for people with ASD who commit suicide in relation to overall suicides.
